- Use well structured website code. Use headings for your headings - don't just use bold paragraph styles. The fact it is bold may make it stand out to a person, but to a search engine it's just another paragraph without a heading marker!
- Avoid cramming keywords into your page. Search engines are clever, and getting more so. They can work out what is real text, and what is just there to boost word counts. When you are found out, you risk your site being blacklisted.
- Include a sitemap for your site. Sitemaps help search engines to find all the content on your site, and help to show which are the most important or most frequently changing sections of your site.
- Use advertising to get your website known. People visiting your site and linking to it will increase the ranking of your site in the search engines, but if they don't know your site exists in the first place, they will never visit! Make sure your web address is on all of your printed material, in newspaper adverts and displayed at your business.
